What the hell kind of deal was struck with king that he decided to make someone who betrayed and crippled the heir to the throne into the next heir? Not only does that person seem wildly unfit for the position, and in fact an enemy to the royal family, but its ending the royal bloodline.
And why did the princess think the person who crippled her in order to steal her position was still her friend until FL talked about his future love life?
And also, why keep all this information secret? It would be a pretty quick way to completely destroy his reputation. Just because the king wants a treacherous outsider on the throne?
