So the situation with the mom is more tragic than anything else, as it seems like she wasn't "cheating" so much as there was just an understanding between the adults that it was an open relationship. Is there a reason she couldn't be part of her children's lives after the divorce though? She wouldn't be "living a lie" after the divorce, so FL wouldn't react poorly to her, right? I'm gonna have to guess it would be seen as improper or something for some reason.

It makes me feel better that FL still has a relationship with her mother. I can't fault the parents divorcing in that situation (a political marriage they didn't actually want, and staying together only hurt FL), but I was worried the mom had basically abandoned her kids, because that's how these stories usually go. That they still see each other is good.
