I find it hard to believe that a species with "fated mates" in this way would actually end up with a class society as rigidly hierarchical as this. Also, a king this weak minded who also doesn't care about politics would quickly just become a figurehead and his baby sitters, I mean ministers, would just run the kingdom around him and straight up not let him raise taxes for his mate, giving whatever excuses they feel necessary.
