I'm waiting for the shoe to drop re: what that man wants with our MC. They have given us, like, three scenes where the author makes it clear that he is Up To No Good, and the author KNOWS that we are all reading this to find out what shenans he is ganing.

I like this one quite a bit. The MC is aware of her situation and that she has been worn down by her abusive family. The ML has a dark agenda but shows respect for the MC even if she's also a tool for his goals atm. The MC's family is, unfortunately, pretty cliché in their meanness and callous behavior. I wonder how the plot is going to go forward.
