i ended up reading the novel, and all i can say is it's classic miscommunication complicated by some bad actors. i'm curious if the manga will change anything, but it's hard to be patient for this type of story. all the comeuppance and the reveals that the reader already knows or suspects happens right at the very end of the story, so most of the plot is just angsty pining without a lot of satisfaction until the finale. read if you're into that, but don't expect the miscommunication to be resolved until the very end.

Honestly, in 3 chapters, that start was already so bad that even if it's miscommunication, the price who I think is ML, doesn't deserve her at all. I though that only explanation could be brainwashing, but if it's just miscommunication, fuuk it...
As FL I would leave to start a guild somewhere and ask all of the friends that fought her side leave with her. They can all be mercenaries and get by just fine.

it's a bit of both. fl sister used illusion magic and took her brooch to trick ml into thinking she was fl right after he recovered and was still weak and delirious from sickness. when ml and fl reunite though, they keep going around in circles like "i was abandoned!" "[i] didn't abandon you!" or well, ml for whatever reason switched bodies with his younger brother and is hiding it so he doesn't clear it up bc he can't talk to fl as himself until all the reveals happen

i thought it was some scheme and he was pretending so he could take down that awful duke and her manipulative sister. Oh well

no he gets super fooled by the duke and sister and gets his og body stuck in suspended animation which is why he has to switch bodies w/ his younger brother. and while they suspect duke and sister, they only figure stuff out and catch them on it after the dragon(s) come in and identify sister as a dragon slayer. super frustrating
