Genuinely why was the ex-wife allowed inside? Everyone knows that the Count hates her, and she abandoned her parental rights to her daughter. She should have been turned away at the gates.

Cause the author wanted to use it as a plot device for FMC and ML's confession. Personally I was screaming for the guards to gag that ex-wife.@M Lin (Liedral)
obviously. But I don't like it if it's completely illogical. The simplest way would have been to pick up the kid and return to the room until the guards kick her out.The whole 'arc' about the birth mother is disappointing. I had hoped she had a bit more brains to do something more cunning. Like lead her outside and kidnap her. Or hire some thugs to take her. So boring.....

well, then she should at least find someone cunning to work together!! Simply barging in and throwing a tantrum is soooooo boring.....I always love the trope of the servants being way ahead of their idiot masters in understanding the romance, and just laughing and giggling at their masters being romantic dunces.

And there we have it, the mom's stupid plan. "I'll just ask to have the kid I abandoned handed over for what are definitely nefarious purposes."
It's also interesting to hear that the ex-wife was disowned by her family, given she seemed to always be pretty openly promiscuous, and it was stated that she was the one that initiated the divorce. I guess they finally got fed up with her, and I can't blame them.
