The story is set in the late 19th century in Britain. Paula, a young woman who lost her mother early and suffered harshly in a poorhouse, has a special ability. Thanks to a unique vision, she can see "impurities"—the germs of disease, malice in people's hearts, and impending death—which has helped her survive. After being sent out to work as a maid at age 14, she leads a modest life. One day, her employer transfers her to a ruined mansion with a terrible reputation, to work for a man rumored to be a "Dark Earl". There, she meets the enigmatic Selwyn, the Earl of Roseberry.

There is a quiet poetic grace to this story. You can really feel the sadness the 2 protagonists went and are going through. The ML denies himself happiness for reasons still unknown, even as to lie about who he is in relations to the MC. The MC is one of those soft but very strong characters, who face whatever life throws at them with grace and dignity. I look forward to this story's development.
I find this a little silly, there are alot of popular tropes but the direction of the story is unclear. I don’t know if it’s the pacing or the translation but the dialogue is choppy and hard to follow at times. There is a lot of talk about reincarnation but it doesn’t seem to be part of the plot.
