Writing this review while at Chapter 6.
It feels like the story is trying to gaslight me and FL at the same time. FL has an arranged marriage with this guy (he was actually a 23 year old who fell in love with a 15 year old he never even talked to and got the marriage worked out), and running up to the marriage they exchanged plenty of letters and he seemed nice. Then they get married (no wedding) and the closest thing they have to direct interaction for FIVE YEARS is him yelling "Don't you dare let her come near me!" from another room on the first day she moves in. So she spends FIVE YEARS without ever seeing his face or hearing his voice again. At first the servants gave daily excuses, but by a year in she just gave up and understood she would never be allowed to meet her husband. Over these FIVE YEARS she isn't allowed to do anything in the household, people are awkward around her because she's a Duchess but isn't introduced to other people of similar rank, so she loses literally all of her friends and social circle, and largely withdraws from society (which sounds a whole lot like depression to me). She's finally decided enough is enough, and she wants a divorce, but everyone she mentions it to says that's a bad idea because as a duchess she has money and that's what really matters, and her brother says maybe its her fault because she hasn't tried hard enough to reach out to the person that refuses to have any interaction with her. All of these gaslighting shit heads are portrayed in the narrative as kind and insightful people. FL even for some reason occasionally reflects on how her husband must be "kind" for completely inconsequential things she hears about him ("He has friends? Oh, he must be kind.") And why has ML let his wife suffer for FIVE YEARS without any word or explanation for his actions? Its because he's shy and he blushes when he sees FL because he loves her sooooo much. Fuck you ML. When she finds out the truth, I want FL to slap him unconscious and then demand a divorce.
Oh, and the main plot is the ML is now pretending to be someone else with a shyness issue asking FL for help curing it. Because apparently he's not too shy to meet with her if he's committing identity fraud at the time? He's just too shy to write a goddamn letter or have the butler tell FL that he's shy and has difficulty facing her.
Yeah, it's another, "ML tries to convince FL to have an affair with himself," story. Not a fan of the brother immediately turning it on FL too but at the same time I have to admit that thought was lingering in my mind too a bit.
It's weird because the ML wonders why she's divorcing him now after 5 years and I'm wondering that too. Like two years would've still been bad but they could've made more excuses aside from his shyness. Like it was a mix of his shyness but also his duties, trying desperately to earn a higher rank in the army or something to be "worthy" of her so at least a year of their time together was him being on the front lines or something.
It kind of sounds like that did happen but it also sounds like he had a lot of power even before they were married. But back to my point, I feel like the only reason the author set her up to be 15 (for literally like 3-6 pages before she's 20 for the rest of the story, could've made her 18 for those few pages instead) is so that they can do a five year time skip to her being 20 when a two year jump from 18 to 20 could've worked just as well if not better.
So far the story is fine but the author isn't giving me a lot of hope for a satisfying apology or character growth.
You have nicely summed up why I can't stand this manga. Thanks.
FR!! I kept waiting to hear the full extent of his reason only to find that that's it?!
5 years, and would've been longer if she didn't decide on divorce.
That's too long!! And the constant lying by staff all that time! She's had no one in her corner!!! 😭😭😭
Sir thank you for your review and for your kind help to help me avoid another shitty manga.God bless you and may you have a good day filled with happiness.
Holy hell this ML is a selfish motherfucker, he's a massive gaslighter, selfish and controlling and a pedophile - 23 years old, fell in love with a 15 year old girl, bought her because of her massive family debt and never once showed himself to her in FIVE FUCKING YEARS and why does he do this? Because he stutters and blushes when around women, he knows he can't be around women but he still fucking trapped one to be with him, a little girl at that and tried to stop her from working to free herself.
FUCK HIM!
This motherfucker is a 101 on gaslighting.
Why the fuck does the retard MC forgive him for all this bullshit?
What's especially weird to me is that the age gap actually doesn't seem to play into the story AT ALL. Like, I counted, she's fifteen for 17 pages of chapter 1. 17 out of 46 pages, where the other 30 pages, and for every chapter moving forward she's twenty years old. Feels really weird to set up that she married at fifteen when she's twenty for the rest of the story. Feels like we could've just skirted past that by having ML be 23 and FL 18 at the beginning of the story, still a big gap but at least it's not as big as the previous gap. The time skip could've been scaled down to two years to jump from 18 to 20 instead.
The protagonist forgives him because everyone around her masks the male protagonist's worthless behavior; she grew up that way, and they instilled a distorted idea in her head that she can't shake off. I sincerely hope she slaps him in the face.
Sooo, if I'm understanding this right.
He's just a moron? Well thats fine, we're all morons in our own way. Hmm? What's that? His moronic nature is amplified to absurd degrees In order to make a viable plot? Well it wouldn't be the first time I've read such. Hmm? Can you repeat that? His moronic illogical irrational nature is being portrayed as just a small quirky obstacle in the mountain of irreparable damage to their relationship?
Yeah, nah.
“Her task: fixing the *** of Ian’s friend, Baron Servan”
I literally have NO IDEA why they censored that except maybe for clickbait? It's shyness, the word they censored is "shy" because the ML blushes whenever he looks at or interacts with the FL.
He ignored her for five years, making her feel unloved and isolated, because he blushes? This is neither cute nor acceptable. If the premise was that he went a month without showing his face, then sure, you can play the "he's just shy and blushy" card. Not five years though. Also he fell in love with her when he was 23 and she was 15?
While both leads are cute, I really wanted ML to suffer more. And those men who sided with him.
All the reasoning are bs. Why on earth the asked a younger FL to understand older ML's childish reasoning? He might as well wore a mask in front of her!!! Wasting her youth just like that!!!
ML Basically: "I've treated you with incredible disrespect and neglect, and ruined your mental health for reasons that I refuse to explain to you. They're 'personal', and obviously my wife of five years isn't someone I'd confide in because I clearly don't respect you or value your happiness."
ML can go to hell, just because he's blushy shyboy doesn't stop him from being a piece of shit.
It pisses me off that he gives such an absolutely shitty garbage response and now she's saying she's at fault too (thanks a lot piece of shit brother for putting that in her head) and if only he'd given his trash non-answer before she decided on divorce. As if things would be okay if he wrote a letter with this bullshit when she was only trapped in this marriage for 4 years and 11 months.
The brother can absolutely go and fuck himself. "He's isolated and snubbed you for five years? Have you considered that its actually your fault?"
This still doesn’t make him look good…
For real. I'm appalled that her family let her live alone for 5 years while waiting for a husband who never came. Not a fan of her family.
What do you mean you left her for 5 years???😭 Even if your extremely shy or whatever that is no reason for you to leave your wife alone for 5 LONG YEARS and ignore your responsibilities as a husband. I SWEAR IF FL FORGIVES HIM TOO QUICKLY (I want him to really really regret his decision) I WILL GO INSANE AND TELEPORT IN THEIR WORLD AND BONK HIS HEAD RAAAAAAAA
Yknow what? I want this to be angsty instead. For Ml to regret the decision he made. Cmon man. Shy my butt when hes a commander? Does that make sense? Atleast he could have written a letter to her for the past 5 years istead of NO CONTACT AT ALL. I STAND WITH THE COMMENT SECTION!!! AUTHOR PLEASE MAKE THE MALE LEAD REGRET HIS DECISION AND DONT LET FL FORGIVE HIM TOO FAST! Still rooting for them but that doesn't excuse the 5 long years of loneliness fl had.
Everyone who says she shouldn't get divorced is a dipshit, and wouldn't feel that way if they were in her position. But why is she now thinking that her husband "might actually be kind"? Kind people don't do to their wives what he's done to his.
Yytrrfgh
FL should have had so many more questions about why her "employer" was showing up at her house to nurse her. She just accepted it like that wasn't completely fucking weird for their aristocratic society.
So here's the question, now that the truth has been revealed, will FL give ML the trashing he so justly deserves? Is she going to get slightly sad and then quickly get over out now that she knows her awful emotionally abusive husband is a blushy shy boy? Or is she just going to be ok, happy about it, and try to comfort her shitty husband because he looks sad? I know which one I want, but I'm wouldn't bet on it.
Her five years sound even worse than before. Marrying him cost her all of her friends? I know it won't happen, but I really hope when reveals the truth to her, that she will just slap him and immediately demand a divorce. Five years of that is unforgivable.
Husband and father got off too easy. You can only try so hard for someone who won't show up for you, so I don't think she should feel as bad about it as she does. She did try. She knocked and no one answered for 5 years. How many more years would it have taken her husband to be upfront if she hadn't mentioned divorce?
Mother holding people accountable for making her daughter feel like a prop/afterthought is the best.
Brother is trying, but you can't convince me that he didn't notice anything for 5 years. He just left his sister alone, in the dark. I feel like he's seen her husband more than she has in those 5 years. At some point, they can't look at their relationship and think that that's just how marriage is.
Ughh! disgusting! I prefer to stay divorced, what if we haven't seen each other for 5 years after we got married and then we meet, it turns out he's deceiving me?. Why FLs always choose to stay?
This is dumb 😌
